This session helps you build the ability to recover while still climbing — a crucial skill in mountainous sportives. On long ascents, you’ll often face repeated changes in pace: a switchback that forces a surge, a group that suddenly ups the tempo, or a steeper ramp that demands more power. This workout mimics that rhythm of surging and settling without a full recovery, training your body and mind to stay composed under pressure.

Focus on keeping your upper body relaxed, even during the harder efforts. Controlled breathing and good posture go a long way in managing fatigue on sustained climbs.
